President
Stefan Currie-Roberts
Stefan was born in Victoria, BC and has lived much of his life on the West Coast. Before coming to law school he obtained a BA in Political Science and an MA in Public Administration. Realizing those degrees weren't very exciting, he upped the ante by spending a couple of years working with the BC legislature and government. The excitement proved too much, and he decided to go to law school.
Stefan has enjoyed meeting many talented and creative people at law school, being involved with the LSS as a Section Representative and the VP Finance, sitting on the Admissions Committee, and being introduced to Settlers of Catan. He really wants to bring this commitment and experience to the LSS Presidency.
His greatest strengths are organization, leadership and communication skills, the relationships he has built at Weldon, and a willingness to listen to and support others.
In his spare time he enjoys the nuances of Olands beer, playing squash, and liking things on Facebook. His greatest accomplishments are spending 70 days wearing spandex in 2010 and being a member of the championship Dalhousie intramural co-ed recreational outdoor soccer team in 2011.

Jamie Violande
My name is Jamie Violande and I am running for president of the LSS. I'm from Cape Breton, Nova Scotia and have a degree in Business Administration. While it's true that I have no previous involvement in the LSS, I have the practical skills that make me more than competent. In my former non-law-school-happy-go-lucky life that didn't involving reading hours of cases a week, I was coordinating the human resources department for a company employing over 400 people. Additionally, I was a consultant with Investors Group, where I was responsible for the financial futures of 160 families with over three million dollars in liquid assets. I am personable, approachable, energetic, and enthusiastic to work with you to make Weldon a more enjoyable experience for everyone.
If elected Thursday, I plan on beefing up my resume, winning a bet, and making it to Domus.
So vote Jamie Violande for president (jazz hands), he's kind of a big deal.

Vice President Executive
YES to Jamie-Lynn Kraft
Hi everyone. I'm in 2nd year here at Dal Law. I've always wanted to be involved with the school and the LSS in particular. I am currently the LSS Secretary. I hope to continue giving back as a member of the Executive next year. So please vote YES for me, Jamie-Lynn Kraft, for VP Executive.

Vice President External
Sam Higgins
Sam was raised in rural Nova Scotia and always dreamed of one day seeing the bright lights of Halifax. She has her BA from Saint Mary's University in Political Science and Economics.
Born 'Samantha Claire Higgins', she will also answer to 'Sammy', 'Day-walker', or 'Higgy Smalls'.
If elected, she would work to increase communication between law students and the outside legal community. She would form a school wide mentorship program to match up students with lawyers from around Canada in the areas and locations in which they are interested.

Kyle DeYoung
Hi Everyone,
I'm Kyle DeYoung and I'm running for VP External. During my time at Weldon I've been involved with a number of groups, and have been an Orientation Week Coordinator and President of OUTlaw.
I've also had experience in student government, as President of the Dalhousie Association of Graduate students, and as a Dalhousie Student Union councillor for 2 years.
If elected VP External, I would improve students' engagement with the local and national legal communities. I would better coordinate the mentorship program, so all students would have access to a mentor. I would continue examining the feasibility of a national law students organization, and move forward with it if there was interest from students across the country. I would work to better connect Weldon with the broader Dal and Halifax communities. And, I would listen to students' feedback, and work really hard to improve whatever I can.
Thanks for taking the time to read this, and drop me an email if you have any questions: kyle.deyoung@dal.ca.

Vice President Academic
YES to Caitlin Urquhart
Hey! My name is Caitlin Urquhart and this year I was Section C rep on the LSS. I've been on intramural teams, participated in many society events and did Pro Bono. I believe in the Weldon tradition of public service and would like to make the educational experience of all students a positive one.
Each of us is here to get our legal education, so pedagogy is important. I think that better integration of alternative perspectives would help promote critical thinking and creative approaches to the law. The skill set that is required in the field should be the basis of our education. So, it's key for students to gain or improve their oral and written advocacy, as well as critical and analytical thinking. I would promote incentives (such as the co-curricular transcript) for co-curricluar activities to benefit well-rounded students. I believe that providing more support for "alternative careers" or, simply put, more career options will allow our diverse group of students find the path that's right for them. Overall, the current system is the status quo and works for some, but there are many who aren't achieving the success they are capable of. I think we need to look at best practices across Canada and around the world to implement a system that develops competent students of the law.
Your aspirations and opinions will be a key part of what I bring to the table, so I look forward to working with all of you!

Vice President Finance
YES to Chris Keliher
My name is Christopher Keliher, and I am running for VP Finance. As a second year student who has been active in the Dalhousie community, I believe I would be a strong addition to the LSS Executive. This strength stems not only from involvement at Weldon, but also from my background in business.
In terms of involvement, I currently sit on the Studies Committee, I'm working with several law students to establish a Pro Bono Corporate Law Clinic, and I've helped in coordinating the Law Intramural B hockey team.
As for business, I have a Bachelor of Commerce (from Dal), I've worked in commercial finance, I've represented Dalhousie nationally and regionally in strategy case competitions, and I'm currently in the process of obtaining my Certified Human Resource Professional designation.
Additionally, I have always been active in student government. During undergrad for example, I was one of two students who sat on the Faculty of Management Steering Committee, and I acted as a liaison between students and MCS (the equivalent of our CDO).
This commitment and experience is something I would love to bring to the LSS. I hope you will support my nomination for VP Finance by voting "Yes".

VP Communications
Charlotte Edwards
Reasons Charlotte Deserves Your Vote:
- Charlotte has volunteer, academic, and professional marketing experience - so I am qualified!
- She is very involved in the Weldon community - Orientation week and Community Outreach sometimes took over her life!
- She wants to conduct an engagement survey, and talk to you to see how you want to be communicated with. And then create a communication plan for LSS approval.
- Currently, the LSS in their official capacity communicated for less than five minutes with you during Orientation week. She wants to play a bigger role in the first few days of new student law school experiences.
- She wants to serve as the communication officer to you which means providing you with the pre-approved LSS communication.
- Communicate with student societies regularly and provide student societies with additional support.
- Apparently, you should be afraid of her, according to law ball nominations I am likely to kick votre derriere!
- Create a calendar, facilitate class presentations, and have a more visual presence in the law school.
- Reach out to the entire student body, not just a small group of her personal friends.
- She really wants to be your VP Communication!

Cooperation between LSS and Societies: Help and support where it is needed - workshops, orientation, templates and manuals are just a few options.
Formal and Informal Knowledge Exchange: No wasted time. Societies will receive support for set up and ongoing operations.
Timely complete and accurate updates: Verification of communication so that it is correct, current

Earlier this year I was helping update the old LSS website. When I saw how hard that setup was to use, I volunteered to make a new, user-friendly site from scratch. The new dallss.com launched in early February.
Since so much sharing of info these days happens online, my knowledge of technology (read: being a computer geek) puts me in a good position to make communications more efficient. I think it's important that technological solutions are easy to use and are accessible to anyone. Law students are busy enough; I'll help take some of the weight off by creating a system that will keep you in the loop and save you time.
Someone recently asked me why I would want to take this job on. The answer's easy. The students and societies at Weldon do some impressive things. I want to use my experience to make sure you have the information and tools to do even more awesome stuff, and have an easier time of it. I'll bet that what comes of that will definitely be worth it.
